Plot –
The final version is set in 2142 A.D., a century after humanity’s carelessness resulted in the collapse of Earth’s biosphere. The only survivors are a technological society in a magnificent enclosed scientifically-designed refuge city, Ecoban, and a small horde of refugees in the Wasteland just outside. The leaders of Ecoban have supported the refugees in return for their providing labor to mine the raw materials needed to keep Ecoban operational.
After a century, Ecoban’s leaders have degenerated into an indolent elite class who have reduced the “Diggers” to slavery, providing no more than the barest minimum to keep them alive. Meanwhile, the machinery sustaining Ecoban continues to pollute the world outside. The Diggers have finally grown angry enough to strike for better conditions. At the same time Ecoban’s machinery is breaking down and repairing it requires endangering the "Diggers" lives with more pollution.
Story –
- The story of Sky Blue is nothing extraordinary as such but when it comes to handling the story and a simple plot line, Sky Blue really excels in that regard.
- Even though the story should have been properly developed in certain areas as to giving a viewer a detail premise of what the world in Sky Blue is all about, it still does very well in its own way.
- Even if it’s a medium length movie not exceeding 80 minutes, it still feels drawn out for pretty long rather than being cut short.
Story - 6/10
Animation –
- Top of the class animation.
- Should inspire other anime or anime-influenced shows to follow its lead.
- Really (I mean really) big budget animation gives a feeling like you would have had while watching Hellsing Ultimate. It’s just that good.
Animation – 10/10
Sound –
- Sound is moderately ok.
- The voice acting is nothing extraordinary but then again it doesn’t feel as bad as Elfen Lied either.
- It could have used more background sounds for sure.
- Rather than sounding mundane and continuously using gas, steam or ultra-techno sounds, the movie should have incorporated a lot more.
Sound – 6/10
Characters –
- The characters are in a sense poorly developed.
- You would not feel the love and warmth that the two protagonists here feel.
- Even the reasons and psychological background of the antagonists is left in the dark.
- The emotions of general people are left unexplored too.
Characters – 4/10
Enjoyment –
- The movie is worth at least one time watch.
- Spectacular animation would make you cum all over it.
- Though the character development is like the weakest link here, it feels alright to certain extent.
- The thing is that characters are not poorly designed, rather they feel like prototype models.
Enjoyment – 5.8/10
Verdict – 6.3/10
